Things to do at Iguazu Falls: boat rides, Itaipu Dam and Parque das Aves

Beyond the walkways of the two parks, the classic additions are a boat ride to the falls, Macuco Safari on the Brazilian side or La Gran Aventura on the Argentine side; a visit to the Itaipu hydroelectric dam from Foz do Iguaçu; the Parque das Aves aviaries next to the Brazilian park entrance; and, in Argentina, the Travesía Iguazú, a sunset boat trip to the Three Frontiers landmark. We sell all of them at our price per person in US dollars, and you add them in My trip once you have the park ticket for that side. The table shows how long each one takes, the age limits and what it includes.

In short

  • Boat rides to the falls: Macuco Safari in Brazil, La Gran Aventura in Argentina
  • Itaipu Dam, from Foz do Iguaçu: an outdoor panoramic tour or the inside of the dam
  • Parque das Aves: walk-through aviaries next to the Brazilian park entrance
  • Added in My trip after you book the park ticket for that side

Boat rides to the falls

There is one classic boat ride on each side. Macuco Safari, in the Brazilian park, combines an electric vehicle through the forest, a short guided trail and a boat up to the falls. La Gran Aventura, in the Argentine park, combines an open vehicle along the Yacaratiá trail with a boat up the rapids and under the falls. Both are inside the national park, so you need that side's entry for the same day. How wet you get, what to bring and who cannot ride are in the boat ride guide.

Itaipu Dam

  • Panoramic visit: an outdoor tour of the Itaipu hydroelectric dam with an audio guide and staff on board, from Foz do Iguaçu, for all ages; departures run regularly in order of arrival
  • Special tour: the panoramic route plus the inside of the dam, with the central control room and the machine hall; it has a minimum age, asks for photo ID and closed shoes, does not allow bags and has limited places

Parque das Aves and the Travesía Iguazú

  • Parque das Aves: walk-through aviaries of Atlantic Forest birds next to the Brazilian park entrance, open every day; young children enter free, so do not add them
  • Travesía Iguazú: a trail and a sunset boat trip down the Iguazú river to the Three Frontiers landmark, ending in Puerto Iguazú town; it is not possible if you drove into the park in a private car, and it is not for pregnant women or people with reduced mobility

How to add them to your trip

Questions

What is there to do at Iguazu Falls besides the walkways?

A boat ride to the falls on either side, the Itaipu Dam from Foz do Iguaçu, the Parque das Aves next to the Brazilian park and, in Argentina, the Travesía Iguazú at sunset.

Do I need a park ticket for these experiences?

The two boat rides run inside the national parks, so you need that side's entry for the same day. With us, every experience is added in My trip once you have booked the park ticket for that side.

Which experiences work with young children?

The Parque das Aves, the Itaipu panoramic visit and Macuco Safari take all ages. La Gran Aventura and the inside tour of Itaipu have minimum ages; the table shows them.
